What is Damm (Hady) in Hajj and Umrah?

Damm (also known as Hady) is a form of compensation required for certain mistakes or violations during Hajj or Umrah. It is prescribed to rectify an error and complete your pilgrimage correctly.

This involves the sacrifice of:

• A sheep or goat, or
• 1/7th share of a larger animal (such as a cow or camel)

The sacrifice must be carried out within the boundaries of the Haram (Makkah) in accordance with Islamic guidelines.

When is Damm Required?

Damm becomes obligatory in specific situations during Hajj or Umrah, including:

• Violating the prohibitions of Ihram, such as:
  • Applying perfume
  • Cutting hair or nails
  • Engaging in intimate acts (including physical contact with desire)
• Omitting a Wājib (obligatory) act of Hajj or Umrah, for example:
  • Crossing the Miqāt without entering Ihram
• Violating the sanctity of the Haram, such as:
  • Harming or killing animals within its boundaries
